First Alert Weather Day Friday for snow accumulations 1-3”.
We continue to track a developing winter storm. Heavy rain will continue to move across North Alabama and southern Tennessee into the overnight hours. A flash flood watch is in effect until 6am Friday. 2-3” of rain are likely across the area and that could create localized flash flooding for the morning commute. Temperatures will remain in the 40s overnight.
As the developing storm begins to move east of the Tennessee Valley late Friday morning there will be a changeover to snow from west to east as the colder air move in. Right now we are expecting rain to start changing to snow in these areas:
Northwest Alabama 11am-1pm…Huntsville Metro 3-5pm…Northeast Alabama 4-7pm. The higher snowfall totals are most likely over northwest Alabama and along the Tennessee state line. Snow could become heavy at times. The snow will begin to taper off by 10pm. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s Friday night and travel issues are expected through Saturday morning. Sunshine is expected to return Saturday afternoon with highs near 35. Keep checking back for the latest forecast. There will likely be changes to the strength and track of this developing winter storm that could impact our expected snowfall totals and travel conditions.
Dry for Sunday with a high of 47 after a morning low of 21.
