After a soggy start to July it is only appropriate the we are ending the month on a similar note. The latest wave of showers and storms began late yesterday afternoon with rain and heavy downpours picking up during the overnight hours.
Rain amounts the last 24 hours have been heavy with many areas seeing 1-2" of rain. Some localized spots have picked up 3" to as much as 4" of rain. Here's the doppler radar estimated rainfall amounts since yesterday.
Some measured totals through early this morning include:
0.36" Muscle Shoals
All this comes on top of multiple rain events this month. We got a head start on our monthly rain on the 4th when some places saw as much as 8-9"! That put us on pace for what has turned into a record breaking July and it looks like July 2013 will go down officially as the 3rd wettest in Huntsville.
The 10.35" we've seen so far in Huntsville lags behind the wettest July of 1967 when 14.81" of rain fell. Even though we'll likely add a little more to the monthly total before midnight, it's unlikely that we'll exceed the second wettest July of 1958 with 12.43".
