The weekend is upon us and the weather is looking fantastic! It's going to be a big turnaround from yesterday's weather which was the coldest April 4th on record. Minimum maximum temperature records were broken across north Alabama. Huh, you ask? Basically our high temperatures yesterday were the lowest ever seen on April 4th since records have been kept. Here's how chilly it ended up around the area:
47 in Huntsville (old record was 50 in 1987)
46 in Decatur (old record was 48 in 1901)
48 in Muscle Shoals (old record was 50 in 1998)
The next 5 days will look a whole lot different. Instead of just a couple of warm days, it looks like the spring-like temperatures may be here to stay finally! We could see the first 80 degree temperatures of 2013, and the first since November 3rd.
If you have outdoor plans this weekend the weather should be just about perfect for those. I've already got my to-do list of outdoor chores ready...we'll see how much of it I actually accomplish....
About the only problem will be the tree pollen counts which will go sky high this weekend with the warm and dry weather expected. If you spend a lot of time outside over the weekend don't forget to put on sunscreen. It may only be early April but the sun is up high enough in the sky to give you a burn.
This may be a good weekend to start on the spring flower and vegetable gardens. I'm cautiously optimistic that we're done with any killing cold weather. The odds of seeing a freeze or substantial frost in the next couple of weeks are looking fairly low.
