Better Beach Weather For Labor Day

If you had plans to head down to the Alabama beaches, the weather will be improving in time for the long Labor Day Weekend. Tropical Storm Isaac continues to weaken this morning although squalls of heavy rain continue to rotate through south Alabama. Isolated tornadoes remains possible as well with a Tornado Watch in effect until 4pm.

The view from our Gulf Shores Alfa Camera is a little better today, but the seas are still rough, the wind is still blowing, and you probably wouldn't get much work done on your tan today.

You can see there's a lot of sand in places other than on the beach as the storm surge from Isaac picked some of it up and deposited it in parking lots and streets near the ocean. No major damage has been reported in the area, though officials are having a tough time reaching some areas on Dauphin Island due to the thick sand covering roads. Local officials say the beaches will be open for business for the holiday weekend and hope that tourists don't let Isaac keep them away.

Isaac does continue to slowly pull away from the area. Winds have decreased to around 40mph will continue to fall over the next 24 hours.

The weather is expected to improve as Isaac pulls away. The wind will ease, the ocean will subside and the sun will even make a return over the weekend. Lots of tropical moisture will still be in play however, and showers and storms will remain possible at times through Labor Day. It doesn't look like a washout, though, and you should still be able to get in some good beach time. Water temperatures remain warm, but not quite as warm as they were pre-Isaac....he stirred up the ocean a bit and brought up some cooler water to the surface.
