Evening Weather Update

An upper low that has been nearly stationary is finally weakening and moving to the northeast.  As this low exits, a stalled front to our west will keep scattered showers and storms in the forecast.  Overall, the coverage of storms should not be quite as widespread.  Severe weather is not expected.  But a few storms may produce brief heavy downpours, 30-40 mph winds, small hail and lightning.  For tonight, look for widely scattered showers and a few storms to be possible, mainly before midnight.  Patchy fog will develop after midnight with overnight lows in the 60s.  Temperatures will soar into the middle to upper 80s Tuesday with scattered showers and storms, mainly between 1pm and 8pm.  Hot and humid conditions will stick around for the rest of the week with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.  Isolated to scattered storms will also be in the forecast every day through the end of the week.  The best chance for rain and storms will be during the afternoon and evening.  Enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day! " Splash and Dash " Memorial Day Storms

Today, much like the last couple of days, scattered showers and thunderstorms have been wreaking havoc on official Memorial Day observances, outdoor barbecues and pool parties,.  The threat of more showers and storms will continue well into the evening hours before the storms will start to decline with the loss of afternoon heating.  On the good side of the ledger, the clouds and the showers are helping to keep the temperatures down a bit.  Most areas will reach the mid and perhaps, in some cases upper 80's today and Election day tomorrow.  The actual number and coverage of showers and storms will begin to slowly decline a little bit every day tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday.  In the meantime, be flexible, have the ponchos ready and don't forget of the danger of lightning.  You do not have to be directly under a thunderstorm to get hit by lightning.  You could be up to 6 miles away.  If you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning!  Get inside, if possible. AM Update

Evening Weather Update

An upper low over Mississippi will keep unsettled weather in the forecast for the rest of the holiday weekend.  Showers and storms will be possible tonight with the best chances before midnight.  Severe weather is not likely.  However a few storms could briefly become strong and produce very heavy rain, 30-40 mph winds, lightning and small hail.  Look for more patchy fog developing overnight with lows in the 60s.  Memorial Day will be warm and humid with highs in the middle 80s.  It will also be stormy at times with the best chance of storms between 1pm and 8pm.  I wouldn’t cancel outdoor Memorial Day plans.  But stay weather aware and be prepared to head indoors quickly if storms approach.  Rain & storm chances will be around 60% for Monday and will drop to 40% for Tuesday.  Look for only isolated storms on Wednesday with temperatures around 90.  A front will approach the valley by Thursday and Friday bringing a chance for scattered showers and storms.  Drier weather should build in by Saturday.  Have a wonderful Memorial Day! More Holiday Weekend Showers and Storms

Day.  Some places will get a lot of rain, some places not too much.  A few of the stronger storms could feature some hail, as well, due to a pool of colder air in the upper atmosphere.  Watch out for lightning!  If you can hear thunder, you could be struck by lightning! Showers and storms will continue to be scattered about on Election Day Tuesday as well.  Highs will be in the 80s for the next three days, with lows at night in the upper 60's. Forecast Update for Sunday - More Rain

The upper-level low has really messed up our Memorial Day Weekend weather.  Expect another round of showers and storms this afternoon and evening.  Just like yesterday - a few of those storms may produce hail, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.  Temperatures will likely be a few degrees cooler than yesterday with highs around 82.  After sunset, most of the rain should taper off. We'll see more showers and storms tomorrow.  Most likely the rain will be not be as widespread.  Looks like more of a Summertime pattern for the rest of the week.  If you have any outdoor plans, Wednesday will be your best day with little to any rain in the forecast. The meteorologists at the Storm Prediction Center are focusing on areas south of Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston for the most chance of strong to severe storms this afternoon.  The primary threats will be gusty winds, small hail, heavy rain, and frequent lightning.
